Collective Consciousness Society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Collective Consciousness Society, mostly abbreviated to CCS , was a pure studio big band that was founded in 1970 by Alexis Korner .

history

Besides Korner, important members were the Danish singer Peter Thorup and the composer John Cameron, who played the piano. Producer was Mickie Most . The rhythm section consisted of Alan Parker on guitar, Spike Heatley on double bass and Herbie Flowers on electric bass , Tony Carr and Barry Morgan as drummers and Bill Le Sage as percussionists. Other members were the brass players Harry Beckett , Henry Lowther , Kenny Wheeler , Les Condon , Greg Bowen, Don Lusher and Bill Geldard as well as the saxophonists and flautists Ronnie Ross , Harold McNair , Danny Moss , Peter King , Tony Coe and Ray Warleigh .

In 1970 they released their first hit single on the British RAK label , an instrumental version of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love , which was used as the title theme for the English TV show " Top of the Pops ".

Although it was a pure studio project, the live musician Alexis Korner could not help but play live with this formation. Therefore there was an appearance in the Marquee Club in 1971 , which was also recorded, but has not yet been released.

After a few hit parades, such as Walking and Tap Turns on the Water , and the recording of three long-playing records, the entire material of which was recorded in just two sessions, the group disbanded in 1973.

After CCS, Korner and Thorup formed the band Snape together , with whom they released two albums.
