New Tricks - Die Krimispezialisten (Original title: New Tricks ) is a British crime series by the BBC from 2003 to 2015, in which it comes to a newly founded special unit of Scotland Yard called UCOS ( Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad ), which deals with unresolved cases ( cold cases ).

Content and characters

UCOS is headed by Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman ( Amanda Redman ), who is “parked” here as a career woman after triggering national media protests over the shooting of a dog as part of a hostage rescue. In the tenth season she switches to a unit that tracks down war criminals. Sacha Miller ( Tamzin Outhwaite ) will be in charge of UCOS .

The team consists of her and three detective officers who have now retired:

  • Ex Detective Chief Superintendent Jack Halford ( James Bolam ), Pullman's former boss and mentor, who speaks (mostly only at the grave in his home garden) with his deceased wife
  • Ex Detective Inspector Brian Lane ( Alun Armstrong ), a man with a phenomenal memory (nicknamed "Memory Lane") and the ability to extract minimal details from dusty files, which are often crucial for the investigation of the case. Lane was sent into early retirement after an arrested person died under his supervision and has since suffered from various neuroses and other psychological disorders (not least a tendency to dress more like a homeless person)
  • Ex Detective Sergeant Gerry Standing ( Dennis Waterman ), once one of the most feared criminologists at Scotland Yard, for whom his casual dealings with criminals, who make up a large part of his circle of acquaintances, were fatal at the time, as he had to quit his service after corruption allegations. Standing is also a womanizer who has been married three times and manages to have a good relationship with his three ex-wives. There is a daughter from each marriage. The character drops out of the series in the eleventh season.

Production and publication

The series was produced by the BBC and Wall to Wall Television from 2003 to 2015 . As with Der Aufpasser , Dennis Waterman sings the title track for this series. Steve Edis wrote the soundtrack.

The series was very successful in Great Britain . All 12 seasons were released in the original version on DVD. So far, only the first season is available in German in this country. From September 2013 the broadcaster Servus TV also showed the first two seasons in Austria and Germany.
