Anthony Calf

Anthony Calf (born May 4, 1959 in Hammersmith , London ) is a British theater and film actor .

Life

Anthony Calf was born in Hammersmith , London in 1959 . He trained as an actor at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art . In addition to a number of theater productions, including at the Chichester Festival Theater and the Royal National Theater , he was mainly involved in British television, such as in the crime series Agatha Christie's Poirot (1990), Inspector Barnaby (1999) and New Tricks - Die Krimispezialisten ( 2005-2015). In the multi-part Dickens film adaptation Great Expectations from 1991, he played the role of Pip alongside Jean Simmons and Anthony Hopkins . In 1995 he starred as Colonel Fitzwilliam in the internationally successful BBC television series Pride and Prejudice (1995) alongside Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth .

The cinema productions in which he played small supporting roles include the comedy King George - A Kingdom for More Mind (1994), the literary film adaptation Anna Karenina (1997) with Sophie Marceau , the thriller Straightheads (2007) opposite Gillian Anderson and the film drama Child Welfare with Emma Thompson , alongside whom he also appeared as Duke of Albany in the television production King Lear in 2018 , in which Anthony Hopkins played the title role. Calf is also occasionally used on radio, including BBC Radio 4 , in radio play productions.

With his wife Caroline Harker , an actress and sister of Susannah Harker , Calf has three daughters (* 1983, * 1995 and * 2000).
