from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New York Herald Waltz is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn without an opus number. The work was first performed on October 14, 1894 at the Academy of Music in New York City.

Remarks

The original, consisting of only 24 bars, was composed by Johann Strauss in 1894 and dedicated to the American newspaper New York Herald and its publisher James Gordon Bennett (1841–1918). That also explains the title name. The first performance took place on October 14, 1894 in the New York Academy of Music. The work has not been played in Europe for a long time. Max Schönherr finally created a new arrangement, which he performed on April 21, 1967 in the Vienna Hofburg . This version can also be heard on the CD recording mentioned below.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 18 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
