Newcomer show
The Newcomershow is a variety festival of the Krystallpalast Varieté Leipzig , at which international artists appear in order to get new engagements in the German variety shows. The newcomer show is the only variety festival in Germany.
history
Launched in 2000, the show ran twice a year until 2003, after which it was held annually. The show is organized annually on the first weekend in July by the Krystallpalast Varieté Leipzig . The highlight of this event is the last evening of the festival, at which agents, directors and artistic directors of well-known variety theaters in Germany are present and award prizes to the artists. The aim of this event is that the artist and the professional audience get into conversation with each other and that new commitments arise for both sides. With the expansion of the festival from one game day to two game days (2008), from two game days to three game days (2012) and from three game days to four game days (2015), the festival was able to secure a permanent place in the annual schedule of international variety festivals. On Sunday, the day of the award ceremony, there are usually 60 to 80 industry experts present. In 2020 the newcomer show will celebrate its 20th anniversary from July 2nd to 12th.
Attendees
The participants come from the fields of artistry , magic and clowning . There is no age limit. The only condition for participation is that the performing artists have never previously been under contract with a German variety theater.
Prices
A large number of prizes are awarded. Fixed components are the audience award and the jury award, which are awarded by the Krystallpalast Varieté Leipzig. A two-month engagement in the variety theater is linked to the jury award. The audience award is given to their favorites by the audience. There are also various special prizes awarded by representatives of German variety shows.
Jury Prize
The jury prize is awarded by a six to seven-member jury of experts. This consists of representatives of German variety shows and former artists. A maximum of ten points are awarded in the following categories:
- technology
- presentation
- originality
As a result, the winner is the artist who has achieved the highest number of points in all three categories.
Audience award
On all festival evenings, the audience has the opportunity to choose their favorite artist. The artist with the most audience votes won. In contrast to the jury award, the audience award is not tied to an engagement.
Special prices
In addition to the jury prize and audience prize, various special prizes are awarded by representatives of German variety theaters. The number of prizes awarded is not constant. In general, special prices are also associated with several months of involvement in the respective variety show.
So far, special prizes have been awarded by the following Varietès:
