The Newport Beach California Temple ( English Newport Beach California Temple ) is the 122nd temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is located in Corona del Mar , a district of Newport Beach in the US state of California .

The Newport Beach California Temple was announced on April 21, 2001 and consecrated by Gordon B. Hinckley on August 28, 2005 . This makes the temple the sixth sanctuary of the Church in the state of California . It is kept in the style of Spanish colonial architecture. The total area of the building is 1,650 square meters. The tower has a height of 27 meters. At the top of the dome is a statue of the angel and prophet Moroni .

Due to local protests, the Newport Beach California Temple's blueprints were changed prior to completion. In contrast to the originally planned white marble , a darker shade was chosen. The height of the tower was reduced from 38 to 27 meters. The outdoor lighting goes out at around 11 p.m.

The University of California at Irvine and the posh Fashion Island shopping center are in the immediate vicinity of the building .
