Corona del Mar is located on cliffs above the Pacific Ocean

Corona del Mar ( Spanish: Crown of the Sea ) is a district of Newport Beach in the US state of California . The place was incorporated in 1923.

One of the main attractions in Corona del Mar is the cliff-lined beaches on the coast of the Pacific Ocean . The streets and houses nestle against the gently rising hills, parks and palm trees adorn the appearance of the place.

Corona del Mar spreads on the Pacific Ocean side of the San Joaquin Hills . To the west, the community is bounded by Newport Bay , a large bay, and the city harbor. To the east are the districts of San Joaquin Hills and Newport Coast . The campus of the University of California at Irvine is to the north and the ocean extends to the south.

In July 2007 the district had 14,468 inhabitants.

The 2000 census counted 13,407 residents in Corona del Mar, which were divided between 6,885 households and 3,957 families. The population density was 9,997.8 people per square kilometer. The number of residential units was 6,885.

The population was 93.0% White , 0.3% African American , 0.2% Native American , 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 4.3% Asian . Hispanics or Latinos were 3.9% of the population. The largest groups by ethnic origin in the urban area were: Germans 2,255 (16.9%), English 2,246 (16.8%) and Irish 1,976 (14.8%).

Children under the age of 18 lived in 17.2% of the 6,885 households, 47.9% were married couples, 5.1% had a female head of the household without a husband present, and 45.3% were not families, and 34.6% of the households existed out of single persons and 11.8% was someone 65 years of age or older single. The average household size was 2.05 people and the average family size was 2.63 people.

Of the population, 15.6% were under 18 years old, 3.2% were between 18 and 24, 31.4% between 25 and 44, 23.7% between 45 and 64 and 20.1% were 65 Years old or older. The median age was 44.9 years. For every 100 women there were 94.8 men, for every 100 women over the age of 18 there were 94.7 men.

The average income per household in 2007 amounted to 126,326 US dollars . The average value of a home in 2007 was about $ 2,142,849.

Among the numerous museums in Newport Beach, the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) in Corona del Mar stands out. Opened in 1918, the facility is located on San Clemente Drive. The exhibitions mostly include works of contemporary and modern art.

Buildings

The Newport Beach California Temple, the sixth shrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state of California , has stood on Bonita Canyon Drive since 2005 . The temple has a height of 27 meters and is crowned by a statue of the prophet Moroni .
