San Joaquin Hills is a district of Newport Beach in the US state of California . Previously it had the status of a settlement area defined for statistical purposes ( census-designated place ) and was incorporated into the municipality in 2002.

The district is largely a gated community ; the residential areas can only be reached through guarded gates. In the middle of the settlement is the San Joaquin Hills Reservoir, a large lake that invites you to fish.

San Joaquin Hills extends on the mountain tops of the San Joaquin Hills of the same name, which are part of the foothills of the California Coast Mountains . The settlement nestles in the hilly landscape and offers partially wide views of the Pacific Ocean . San Joaquin Hills borders the Corona del Mar and Newport Coast districts to the west and south . To the northwest is the UC Irvine site , which is part of the urban area of Irvine .

San Joaquin Hills is conveniently located between two expressways. The California State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) runs along the coast in the south. The California State Route 73 (San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor) limits the site to the north and gives motorists an easy journey.

According to the United States Census Bureau , San Joaquin Hills covers an area of ​​3.4 square kilometers. Of this, 3.2 square kilometers are land and 0.2 square kilometers are water. The place is on average 320 meters above sea ​​level .

At the 2000 census , San Joaquin Hills had 2,959 residents, divided among 1,376 households and 769 families. The population density was 936.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The population was 85.97% White , 0.61% African American , 0.07% Native American , 9.53% Asian, and 3.31% Latino . The largest groups by ethnic origin in the urban area were: Germans 564 (18.3%), Irish 354 (11.5%) and English 285 (9.3%).

Children under the age of 18 lived in 28.0% of households. Overall, 21.7% of the population were under 18 years of age, 3.4% between 18 and 24, 44.6% between 25 and 44, 24.6% between 45 and 64 and 5.6% at least 65 years of age and older. The average age was exactly 37 years.
