From 1981–1988, Keuthen had studios in Krefeld , Cologne and New York City . 1991–1992 Keuthen held a visiting professorship for painting at the Kraków Art Academy . Three years later he is involved in the Association for Psychology in Seligenstadt , where he supports the Art-Transmitter project of the European Society for the Promotion of Art and Culture in Psychiatry. In 2000 the first retrospective took place in the Museum Schloss Moyland with works from 20 years. In 1997 the construction of a new studio apartment building began in Macken on the Moselle. In 2003 the company moved to the Zuckerturm in Neustadt in Holstein . From 2004 he worked as an art pedagogue at the Heiligenhafen / Ostsee psychiatry and, together with Michael Dieckmann, board member of the Ameos clinics, set up the Heiligenhafen art class, which he led from then on. In 2013 the 2nd retrospective took place in Berlin's Kleisthaus with the works from 1982 to 2007.

In his works there is a "permanent struggle for [the] liberation from mental paralysis". The work Self-Portrait from 1990 shows Keuthen as a visually impaired person with a blindfold and a long stick . Keuthen also often uses the Red Cross as a protective symbol in his works. It becomes part of an entire cycle called My own Red Cross Campaign .
