Originally, her family tried several times to flee war-torn Vietnam together, but these attempts failed. After the family ran out of money for escape attempts, the mother brought the night the girl to the coast, where Ngo Thị Bích with about 50 other people boarded a small fishing boat and a half weeks under life-threatening circumstances at sea spent by the " boat people " at the 23rd March 1986 from the Cap Anamur were found and recorded.

After Ngô Thị Bích had spent several months in a reception camp in Palawan , she was brought to Germany on August 28, 1986, where she was taken in and raised by the neighbors of the documentary couple in Starnberg . Here she last attended high school until 1994 when her birth parents moved from Vietnam to East Frisia and she had to leave her foster family. In the new environment, she isolated herself and had to switch to secondary school. As an adult, she moved back to Bavaria, but for a long time had difficulties re-establishing her original bond.

After Ngô Thị Bích had worked as an employee for several years and had a job alongside her regular work in the restaurant business, she visited her home country for the first time since her escape in 2008, where she wanted to open her own eatery. From November 2009 to July 2017 she ran the Vietnamese restaurant "Rice" in Munich.
