The Ngong Mountains are a range of hills in the Rift Valley southwest of Nairobi . The word “Ngong” comes from the Maa (the Maasai language ), means “ankle” and describes the four characteristic peaks of the range of hills. The highest of these peaks is at 2460 meters above sea level. The city of Ngong lies at the foot of the Ngong Mountains .

The grave of Denys Finch Hatton , the lover of the Danish farmer and author Karen Blixen , can be found in the Ngong Mountains . It is marked with an obelisk and a bronze plate with a verse from the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge .
