Ngwenya (Swaziland)

Ngwenya is a place in Swaziland . It is located in the west of the country, belongs to the Hhohho region and has around 1000 inhabitants. The place is about 1,357 meters above sea level northwest of Mbabane , near the border between South Africa and Swaziland .
Ngwenya is on the MR3 highway that connects the capital Mbabane with the South African province of Mpumalanga . The Ngwenya / Oshoek border crossing is located near the village .
There is a glass blowing factory in Ngwenya.
To the north of the town is the Ngwenya Mine , which is considered to be the oldest mine in the world. It is said to have been used 42,000 years ago by early humans to mine Roteisenstein . Ancestors of the San are said to have won red ocher here for rock paintings. From 1958 to 1979 iron ore was mined in open-cast mining .
The approximately 18,000 hectare Malolotja Nature Reserve is also north of Ngwenya.
