Nibutani ( Japanese 二 風 谷 from Ainu niptani ( ニ プ タ ニ )) is a district ( aza ) of the Biratori municipality in Hokkaidō , Japan .

In 2010 there were 395 inhabitants and there was a particularly high proportion of Ainu . More than 80% of the population belong to this ethnic minority , which is the largest group in Hokkaido.

The "Urban Ainu Culture Museum Nibutani" ( 平取町立二風谷アイヌ文化博物館, Biratori chōritsu Nibutani Ainu bunka Hakubutsukan ) and the "Kayano-Shigeru-Ainu archive Nibutani" ( 平取町立二風谷アイヌ文化博物館, Shigeru Kayano Nibutani Ainu bunka shiryōkan ) are two folklore museums on the history of the Ainu. Kayano Shigeru was a major Ainu activist and came from Nibutani.

Another popular destination is the recreation area with camping site Nibutani Family Land . In 1997, the Nibutani dam for energy generation was completed.
