Nicanor (military tribune)
Nicanor was a military tribune of knightly origin. He served under Vespasian in Judea and was acquainted with Flavius Josephus . For this reason Vespasian sent Nicanor to Iotapata in 67 to negotiate with Flavius Josephus, who was one of the leaders of the Jewish uprising. He also succeeded in persuading him to give up and surrender to the Romans. Three years later he fought outside Jerusalem , where he was wounded.
