Nicholas Henderson

Sir John Nicholas Henderson GCMG , KCVO ( April 1, 1919 - March 16, 2009 in London ) was a British diplomat and author.

Henderson, son of political economist Hubert Douglas Henderson , was educated at the Stowe School and then attended Hertford College at Oxford University .

In 1946, Henderson entered the diplomatic service; There he worked abroad and in Germany. In 1963 he became private secretary to the British Foreign Secretary George Brown . From 1965 he was ambassador to Spain , Poland (1969–1972), Germany (1972–1975) and France (1975–1979). In 1979 he asked for his release, but worked for Margaret Thatcher as Ambassador to the United States until 1982 .

He also wrote books on history, such as Eugene of Savoy , and his memoirs.
