Nick Delpopolo

Nicholas "Nick" Delpopolo , b. Petar Petrovic, (born February 8, 1989 in Nikšić ) is an American judoka .

Born in Yugoslavia, Delpopolo was adopted by a married couple from the USA as a young child. He began judo at the age of five in Cranford . In 2008 he qualified as the youngest participant for the US elimination for the Olympic Games , in which he was defeated in the class up to 73 kg only in the semi-final against Ryan Reser . In 2011 and 2012, Delpopolo won bronze at the Pan American Championships. Then he took part in the Olympic Games in London , in which he reached seventh place. After a positive doping test for THC , however, he was disqualified and excluded from the games. In 2013 Delpopolo was able to win the gold medal at the Pan American Championships. In 2014 and 2015 he won bronze again. At the 2016 Olympics , he finished seventh.
