Nicolas Bergeron (born December 19, 1975 ) is a French mathematician.

Life

Bergeron studied from 1994 to 1998 at the École normal supérieure de Lyon , where he received his doctorate in 2000 under Jean-Pierre Otal (Cycles géodésiques dans les variétés hyperboliques). As a post-doctoral student he was in Zurich and Neuchatel. In 2001 he became Chargé de Recherche at the University of Paris South, where he completed his habilitation in 2005 (Sur la cohomologie et le specter des variétés localement symétriques) and in 2005 at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. In 2006 he became a professor at the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie).

It deals with the geometry and topology of locally symmetric spaces and arithmetic groups and their spectra and cohomology ..

In 2010 he became a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France and in 2007 he received the bronze medal of the CNRS. For 2018 he is invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro.

He is a member of a group of mathematicians (including Étienne Ghys , among others ) that published under the pseudonym Henri Paul de Saint-Gervais (Uniformisation des surfaces de Riemann, ENS 2010).
