NieA_7 ( Japanese ニ ア ア ン ダ ー セ ブ ン , Nia andā sebun from English NieA under seven ) is an anime series from 2000 that was adapted as a manga . It is about Mayuko's everyday life and her tolerated roommate NieA, an alien . The series manages without a great arc of suspense and often builds loosely on each other in the individual episodes.

action

A few years ago, near Enohana, aliens landed on Earth, which outwardly differ from humans only by their slightly pointed ears and peculiar antennae. The landing was probably more or less unplanned, because since then the mother ship has been stuck on earth and the aliens have integrated themselves quite well into the population, so that they are hardly noticeable. They pursue professions and try to make ends meet just like people.

NieA, however, has stayed with the already poor Mayuko in a closet and increases her financial problems even more, and yet a kind of friendship develops between the two. However, this is repeatedly put to the test by NieA handicrafts, the result of which costs more money than it brings.

Characters

Never A.
She is a young alien who has made herself comfortable in a Mayuko closet. Like them, she lives in poor conditions and a warm meal is by no means a given. She is very extrovert and open-minded and spends a lot of time on her various handicrafts.
Mayuko Chigasaki
Mayuko lives alone if you ignore her unwanted tenant NieA. She receives very little money from home and therefore has to work alongside her cramming school . For example, she helps out in Café Karuchie or helps her landlady run the bathhouse.
Chiaki Komatsu
She's the somewhat alien-crazy school friend of Mayuko and generally in line with the times, or at least doesn't have such money problems as the former. She tries to help Mayuko out of her shyness.
Yoshioka Nenji
This hero in his daydreams is the caretaker of the Enohana bathhouse and is responsible for heating it. He is also very fond of Kotomi.
Kotomi Hiyama
After a few previous owners, she now manages the Enohana bathhouse in addition to her actual job in the city. She actually does this out of attachment rather than financial reasons. Your tobacco and alcohol consumption is alarmingly high.
Genzō Someya
He is a former protégé of Mayuko from her hometown, who has now grown precariously. After his parents opened a grocery store near Enohana, he regularly brings sacks of rice for Mayuko, which is obviously related to his feelings for them.
The charity
Shūhei Karita is the somewhat dreamy operator of Café Karuchie. He is also the father of little Chie, after whom he named his establishment. Chie is unusually self-sufficient for her age because of his shakiness.
Some aliens
Karna is firmly convinced that she is better than NieA, which she reveals over and over again. She chose China as her cultural role model. Chada, on the other hand, has chosen India and lives it out in a terrifying, stereotypical way.

Production and publication

The 13-part series was in 2000 under the direction of Tomokazu Tokoro ( chief director ), assisted by Takuya Satō ( kantoku , Japanese "director") who also wrote the screenplay, animated by Studio Triangle Staff . The character design comes from Yoshiaki Yanagida, based on the designs by Yoshitoshi ABe and the artistic direction was taken over by Aiichirō Hirose. GK is named as the inventor of the series, whereby the g stands for Geronimo Hongō, the pseudonym of the producer Yasuyuki Ueda, and K for the pseudonym Kuso-sensei . Both Abe, Satō, Tokoro and Ueda previously worked on Serial Experiments Lain .

From April 26 to July 19, 2000, the series aired on Japanese television on WOWOW . An English version was broadcast in Asia by AXN-Asia and was released on DVD in Australia and the USA. The series showed Mangas in France, K3 in Spain and Hero in the Philippines. There are also translations into Italian and Chinese. German DVDs were released in 2003 by Anime Virtual .
