Niederhermersdorf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Niederhermersdorf was a municipality in Saxony , which in 1934 was united with the neighboring Oberhermersdorf to form the municipality of Adelsberg, today's Chemnitz district of Adelsberg .

location

Niederhermersdorf was located on the upper reaches of the Gablenzbach on today's Chemnitzer Südring up to today's Adelsberger line at around 360 m to over 400 m.

history

The place was first mentioned as Hermanstorf in 1331, while the neighboring Oberhermersdorf appeared as "Oberhermsdorff" as early as 1290 in the documents. Both places formed a parish with Adelsdorf and Altdorf, whereby the place Adelsdorf and the hill of the same name indicate the possession of this area by the noble families von Schellenberg and von Erdmannsdorff . The settlements of Altdorf and Adelsberg fell desolately in the Middle Ages, and their inhabitants moved to the valley settlements of Nieder- and Oberhermersdorf. In 1290, the Chemnitz Benedictine monastery bought the parish, including the deserted areas of Altdorf and Adelsberg, from the Lords of Erdmannsdorf for 32 silver marks. Due to its proximity to the city of Chemnitz , in 1331 the residents of Ober- and Niederhermsdorf were forbidden to set up brewers or innkeepers under the mile law. From 1438 Niederhermsdorf had its own feudal court. In 1474, the name Adelsberg first appeared in a request from two miners to the Saxon elector to be allowed to dig for ore there.

With the introduction of the Reformation Ober- and Niederhermsdorf came to the office of Chemnitz , the city monastery was secularized. During the Thirty Years' War the community suffered mainly from the Holk Corps , which made the area unsafe from 1632. Fields and crops were devastated, hunger and plague epidemics were the result, from which 146 people died in Ober- and Niederhermsdorf. The Seven Years' War also brought hardship and misery with it.

In 1775 the first fire brigade was set up and a school building was built in the same year. In October 1813, the area was the scene of acts of war when Napoleonic troops, coming from Mittweida, pursued the Austrians fleeing south. There was a local council in Niederhermersdorf since 1839. In 1856 the community came to the Chemnitz Court Office, and in 1875 to the Chemnitz District Administration . In 1886 an inn was built on the Adelsberg, to which the striking, 20-meter-high Adelsberg Tower belonged. In 1905, the local council decided to introduce street lighting with gas lanterns, and since 1912 the place had been connected to the power grid. A town hall was built in 1927, the same year as in Oberhermersdorf. The former rifle house has been used as a youth hostel since that year. Since 1930 Niederhermersdorf could be reached from Chemnitz by city bus.

The merger of Niederhermersdorf and Oberhermersdorf to form the municipality of Adelsberg was decided on December 8, 1933 in the Felsenkeller inn and came into force on April 1, 1934. Adelsberg was incorporated into Chemnitz in 1950.
