The Dutch draft horse (also Dutch draft horse ; Nederlands trekpaard or Zeeuws trekpaard ) is a Dutch horse breed that was originally bred as a workhorse specialized in tensile loads . It was mainly used on heavy soils in agriculture but also in industry. Today the trek couple is mainly used in the leisure sector and as a tourist attraction. The horse is also used in traditional ring rides in Zeeland , where it is decorated and ridden without a saddle.
The Dutch draft horse developed from Brabant in its present form from the beginning of the 20th century . In the turmoil of the First World War , four Belgian stallions came to Holland in 1914 and made significant progress in breeding there. The most important stallion in breeding, however, was Nico van Melo, born in 1935.
The Dutch draft horse is a powerful horse with a calm and friendly nature. The cold blood has shoulder-free gaits and is persistent. Further characteristics are the muscular neck, the broad chest, the steep shoulder, the short back and the strong legs with droppings . Most of the trek couples are brown molds. The height is 160–170 cm.
