The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), e.g. T. Nigerian National Petroleum Company is a state-owned mineral oil company of the Nigerian government based in Abuja .
The government in Nigeria regulates and participates in the country's petroleum industry through this company .
The group was founded on April 1, 1977 through the merger of the Nigerian National Oil Corporation and the Federal Ministry of Mines and Power . The NNPC is a joint venture between the Nigerian federal government and a number of foreign multinational corporations which include Royal Dutch Shell , Exxon -Mobil, Agip , TotalFinaElf and Chevron .
Under the Nigerian constitution, all minerals, gas and oil in the country are owned by the Nigerian government.
