The Nihondaira Cable Car ( Japanese 日本 平 ロ ー プ ウ ェ イ , Nihondaira Rōpuwēi ; English Nihondaira Ropeway ) is a cable car in Japan . It is located on the area of ​​the city of Shizuoka in the prefecture of the same name and leads to the Nihondaira, a panoramic mountain on Suruga Bay . It is operated by the Shizuoka Tetsudō railway company . The cable car is closely related to the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.

The valley station Kunōyama ( 久 能 山 ) is located on the southern flank of the mountain at an altitude of 145  TP and can be reached from the coastal road via a steep staircase. The Kunōzan Tōshō-gū , a historically significant Shintō shrine, is in the immediate vicinity . The cable car takes you up to the mountain station Nihondaira ( 日本平 ) to 269 m  TP , west of the summit and the Nihondaira Observatory located. Over a length of 1065 m, it overcomes a height difference of 124 m. The two cabins offer space for 55 people each and move at a speed of 4.7 m / s. As a rule, the cable car runs every 10 to 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the journey time is five minutes.

After a six-month construction period, the cable car opened on May 31, 1957.
