The Eemmeer (Dutch sea - the sea) is a 1,340 ha large lake in the Netherlands , by the land reclamation in the former Zuiderzee was born. It largely forms the border between the provinces of Utrecht and Flevoland . The Eemmeer is named after the river Eem , which flows into the same in the south.
The Eemmeer is connected to the Gooimeer at the western end and to the Veluwerandmeer to the east . Depending on the source, the directly adjacent Nijkerkernauw is also part of the Eemmeer.
In the Eemmeer there is an artificial island, De Dode Hond (in German: The Dead Dog ). Much of the island is a bird sanctuary and may not be entered.
