Nikanor from Cyrene
Nikanor from Cyrene was a grammarian of Greek antiquity who probably lived in the Hellenistic period . Nikanor wrote the work Metonomasíai , in which he explained the change of geographical and mythological names. For example, he proved that Melikertes and Glaukos are identical. The work has not survived, but is mentioned in the scholias of Apollonios Rhodios , of Athenaios , Harpokration and Stephanos of Byzantium . Identification with Nikanor from Alexandria cannot be ruled out.
