Nikola Aleksandrov

Nikola Penew Aleksandrow ( Bulgarian Никола Пенев Александров ; born December 26, 1937 in Sidarowo ) is a Bulgarian politician of the Bulgarian Communist Party and former mayor of his hometown Burgas .

Nikola Aleksandrow was elected chairman of the City Council Commission "Economy, Trade and Services" on March 8, 1985. After the fall of the communist regime in Bulgaria, the city council decided to elect Aleksandrov as the city's mayor in December 1989. After months of protests by the city's population and under pressure from the street, Aleksandrov officially resigned from the mayor's office because of health problems. His successor Atanas Demirew temporarily held the post of mayor. He was responsible for organizing the first modern democratic local elections in Bulgaria in October 1991. Dimirev died in May 1991, before the elections. The first democratically elected mayor of Burgas was the opposition leader Prodan Prodanov in these elections .
