Nikolai E. Bersarin Bridge with the name tag on the railing

The Nikolai E. Bersarin Bridge is a road bridge over the Wuhle River on the eastern border of the Berlin district of Marzahn . Landsberger Allee leads over the bridge and continues as Landsberger Chaussee in the adjacent district of Hellersdorf . To the west of the overpass is the Landsberger Tor residential area built in the 1990s .

On April 21, 2005 the unnamed bridge was named after the Soviet colonel general and first city commandant of the city of Berlin Nikolai Erastowitsch Bersarin . A memorial plaque with the name given was attached to the railing. The building is located roughly at the point where the first Soviet soldiers of the 5th Shock Army under Bersarin reached the city limits of Berlin on April 21, 1945 .

The name of the bridge met with a mixed response from the population, because many associated the name Bersarin not only with the liberation from National Socialism and his organizational activities in the reconstruction, but also with the rape and looting of his soldiers during the battle for Berlin .
