Nikolai Polyakov
Nikolai Alexejewitsch Polyakow ( Russian: Николай Алексеевич Поляков ; born June 14, 1951 in Leningrad ) is a former Soviet sailor of Estonian origin.
Career
Poljakow moved early from his Russian homeland to the Estonian SSR , where he worked for SKA Tallinn in Soling . Internationally, he first drew attention to himself at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal when he finished fourth with the Soviet boat. 1980 was the most successful year of his career: in addition to the European championship, he won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Moscow together with the brothers Alexander Budnikow and Boris Budnikow . In 1987 he was again European champion with the Soviet Union and won bronze at the world championships. At the end of his career he took part in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , where the Soviet boat, however, only finished tenth.
