Nikolaus van der Pas

Nikolaus van der Pas (born June 11, 1943 in Munich ) is a German economist and EU civil servant. Since 2006 he has been Director General of the Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equality of the European Commission. Later he was Director General for Education and Culture until his retirement.

Van der Pas studied economics in Brussels. After completing his master's degree, he worked in the private sector until 1963, before joining the European Commission. After various positions, he took over the post of General Director for the first time in 1999.
