Nikorzminda Cathedral
The Nikorzminda Cathedral (also Cathedral of Nikorzminda ; Georgian ნიკორწმინდა, ნიკორწმინდის ტაძარი , nɪkʼɔrt͡sʼmɪndɑ , nɪkʼɔrt͡sʼmɪndɪs tʼɑd͡zɑrɪ ) is a Georgian Orthodox cathedral in the village of the same name Nikorzminda . According to an inscription above a western entrance, the cathedral was built by the first king of united Georgia, Bagrat III. Erected from 1010 to 1014. There is a Georgian fresco painting in the church from the 17th century. The facade of the cathedral is richly decorated with Georgian ornaments; Nikorzminda Cathedral is particularly famous for its ornaments and reliefs .
Nikorzminda was a diocese of the Georgian Orthodox Church (Catholic of Abkhazia) from 1534 to 1820/2.
