Nimbus Roman No9 L is a serif - font , the font Times New Roman is similar. It was created in 1987 by URW Type Foundry and finally released in 1996 under the GNU General Public License and the Aladdin Free Public License (as a Type 1 font for Ghostscript ). In 2009 it was released under the LaTeX Project Public License . The font has Normal , Bold , Italic and Bold Italic and is one of several freely licensed fonts from URW Type Foundry.

The metrics of Nimbus Roman No. 9 L are almost identical to those of the Times and Times New Roman , although the characters of the two scripts are different. The font is one of the Ghostscript fonts and thus a free alternative to the 35 PostScript basic fonts.

Nimbus Roman No9 L is a standard font in many GNU / Linux distributions. So used z. B. Ubuntu up to version 8.10 and earlier OpenOffice.org versions use this font as the default font.
