The Nimrod is a missile that can be used as an air-to-surface or surface-to-surface missile . It was developed and manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

History and technology

Israel Aircraft Industries MBT Weapon Systems Division began developing the Nimrod around 1990. It was designed as a semi-active laser-guided anti-tank weapon (ATGW) with day / night capabilities. The Nimrod can also be used as an anti- ship missile . The solid rocket motor allows her a range of 26 km at Mach 0.8.

The rocket is kept in a sealed container that doubles as a launch pad. The total weight of the rocket with canister is 150 kg. It was already mounted on an AMX-13 light tank . In Colombia, it is used on the M462 Abir in a group of four missiles mounted on the rear loading area. In Israel it is primarily used on the Sikorsky S-65 C Yas`ur to support various special forces.

Versions

Nimrod 2

The Nimrod 2 is a rocket that has a seeker head with dual-mode laser + GPS. It has a range of 36 km and can be fired from a mobile launch platform. The warhead weighs 14 kg and it can be equipped with different warheads for a variety of targets.

Nimrod 3

The Nimrod 3 has a range of 10 to 50 km and a warhead that now weighs 50 kg. Otherwise it is constructed like the Nimrod 2.

Mikholite

A smaller and lighter version designed for armed drones . It weighs 20–30 kg and has a range of 10 km.
