Nimuš

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nimuš / Nimusch (today's name Pire Megrun ) is the name of the mountain on which, according to Sumerian mythology, the ship of the Ziusudra docked, which according to the Atraḫasis epic had saved mankind from a gigantic flood, similar to the biblical Noah's Ark . Due to missing lines on the third panel of the epic, the name of the mountain where the ship stranded could only be deduced from the Gilgamesh epic , where it is called 'Nisir'. The name of the mountain used to be read as “Nisir” or “Nizir” , scientists like Irving Finkel stick to this pronunciation. Mount Nimush was also mentioned in the Assyrian royal inscriptions.

The mountain is located in Iraqi Kurdistan not far from the city of Sulaimaniyya .
