Nippon Paint is a Japanese manufacturer of paints and varnishes based in Osaka . After its competitors PPG Industries , Sherwin-Williams and AkzoNobel , the company is one of the largest manufacturers of coating materials worldwide. Nippon Paint's products are used, among other things, to paint buildings, paint cars and coat hulls.

Komyosha was founded in Tokyo in 1881. 16 years later, in 1897, a patent was filed for a zinc oxide production process . This was the company's first patent. In 1898 the name was changed to Nippon Paint Manufacturing Co., Ltd. instead of. It was not until 1920 that the main production was relocated to Osaka, today's corporate headquarters.
