history

On August 28, 1953, Nippon TV began broadcasting as the first private broadcaster in Japan, and from September 10, 1960, color broadcasts began. On April 1, 1966, Nippon TV founded the Nippon News Network (NNN) and in 1973 the Nippon Television Network System (NNS). In 1985 a studio was completed in New York City . In July 2003 the logo, which had existed since 1978, was changed, which was finally changed again in 2013 for the upcoming 60th anniversary. In February 2004, the Kojimachi headquarters, Chiyoda-ku, moved to Shiodome.

NTV has been rocked by several scandals in recent years. Especially after it became known that an NTV producer had paid viewers to manipulate audience ratings. Chairman Seiichiro Ujiie was forced to resign from the National Association of Private Television of Japan in October 2003. Shortly afterwards he also resigned as chairman.
