Nirendranath Lahiri
Nirendranath Lahiri (usually short Niren Lahiri ; Bengali : নীরেন্দ্রনাথ লাহিড়ী, Nīrendranāth Lāhiṛī; born July 17, 1908 in Calcutta ; † December 2, 1972 ) was an Indian film director of Bengali and Hindi films .
He began working in film as an actor in the PC Barua- produced silent film Ekada (1932, directed by Sushil Majumdar ). He then became Barua's assistant in his films for the production company New Theaters . Lahiri was the music director of Sukumar Dasguptas Ashiana , Sushil Majumdar's Tarubala and Tinkari Chakraborty's Annapurnar Mandir (all in 1936) and later on some of his own films. In 1940 he appeared again as an actor in Debaki Bose's Abhinav and in the same year made his debut as a film director with Byabadhan , followed by a film about the poet Kalidas . He became known in particular for his cinematic implementations of nationalistic-idealistic pieces by the "Kallol Group", including Garmil (1942) and Bhabhi-Kaal (1945) based on Premendra Mitra . In 1952 Lahiri filmed two novels by Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay , Palli Samaj and Subhadra .
