Niroz Malek

Niroz Malek (* 1946 in Aleppo ) is a Syrian writer and painter.

Life

Malek studied at the School of Fine Arts and took part in numerous solo and group exhibitions with other Syrian artists. In the late 1960s he devoted himself to writing and has published eight volumes of short stories and six novels since 1970. Some of his stories have been translated into Spanish, Russian, English and Kurdish and printed in literary magazines.

The book The Walkers of Aleppo (Original title:تحت سماء الحرب, DMG Taḥt samāʾ al-ḥarb 'Under the Sky of War') was first published in French by Le Serpent à Plumes , shortened by two texts . The book was awarded the “Prix Lorientales” 2016.
