Summary

Lou lives in Paris and is a thirteen-year-old, gifted girl who, because of her intellectual maturity, has already skipped two years of school. At the beginning of the school year, Lou chooses the fate of homeless people in Paris as the lecture topic.

Lou likes to visit the Gare d'Austerlitz to watch people. There she is approached by No, a homeless, eighteen-year-old woman, about a cigarette. Later Lou invites her several times for drinks, whereupon No - with real name Nolwenn - tells about her everyday life: A constant change of overnight places, a game of hide and seek with shop detectives because she visits supermarkets to warm up in winter, queuing for hours at soup kitchens and Homeless shelters. No is initially confused about the contact with Lou, but thanks to her unconventional approach, Lou succeeds in perceiving No and the other homeless people as people. But then No dives until one day she appears again at Lou's school.

Lou then asks her parents if No could move in with them. Your mother immediately agrees. After the untimely death of her second child, Lou's mother became severely depressed, cut herself off and no longer took part in family life. The mother blossoms when No moves in and helps with the household in return.

No opens up to her new family. She tells of her background. About the fact that her mother was raped by four teenagers and that she was unable to have a legal abortion in the UK for financial reasons . So she gave birth to No and was never able to develop an emotional, loving relationship with her daughter. She initially moved in with a man who was happy to take care of No. However, she separated from him and gave No to a foster family .

After initial problems, No finds a job as a cleaner and temporary barmaid in a hotel. Since she gets half her wages black, she cannot defend herself against the miserable treatment by her boss and the overtime. She begins to isolate herself in Lou's apartment, steal her mother's medicines and drink. Then she has to move out.

No then moves in with Lou's friend, Lucas. Since he had to repeat two years of school because of poor performance, he is four years older than Lou, but unlike her, he understands interpersonal dynamics much better. But even he does not succeed in preventing Nos from slipping into excessive alcohol consumption.

In the end, No decides to move to Ireland with a friend named Loïc with the money she has earned. She dives without ever giving a sign of life again.
