No depression

No Depression was an American journal founded in 1995 for the music genre Alternative Country ; it was subtitled The Alternative Country (whatever that is) . It was published every two months until 2008. It has been online as a community website since 2009, according to the subtitle The Roots Music Authority Since 1995 .

The magazine's editors were Grant Alden and Peter Blackstock from the start, with Kyla Fairchild joining as co-editor in 1998. Alden and Blackstock ceded their shares to Kyla Fairchild in 2008 and 2010, respectively. In March 2014, Fresh Grass bought a new music festival at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, No Depression, and relaunched in August 2014. As before, Kim Ruehl is still chief blogger and community manager.

The name No Depression refers to a song by the band Uncle Tupelo , which is considered to be the style-forming element of the music genre. This in turn borrowed the song from the legendary early country band Carter Family , who commented on the economic crisis of the 1930s with this song .
