Nofret (II.)

Statue of Nefertiti

Nefertiti (sometimes referred to as Nefertiti II to distinguish her from Nefertiti , mother of Amenemhet I ) was a royal lady with the title of "natural king's daughter" . She also had other titles such as "Mistress of the two countries" , "Mistress of all women" or "Who is united with Cha-cheper-Re" . The latter title suggests a relationship to Sesostris II (ruled from about 1901 to 1882 BC), since Cha-cheper-Re is his throne name. Their position is controversial in research. Because of the high titles she is often referred to as the wife of Sesostris II. However, Silke Roth sees her as a daughter of Sesostris II, as she does not have the title of “ consort of the king ”. Nofret is known from two life-size seated statues from Tanis , on which their numerous titles can be found, and appears on a papyrus fragment from Lahun .
