Nefertiti

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nofret was very likely the mother of the ancient Egyptian king Amenemhet I (ruled around 1994 to 1975 BC), who was the first ruler of the 12th dynasty and was probably of non-royal descent. With the name Nofret she is known from a sacrificial tablet that was found near the ruler's pyramid ( Amenemhet I pyramid ) in el-Lisht . Nefertiti was probably buried there. On this sacrificial tablet she bears the title " King Mother ". The title probably refers to Amenemhet I, as she was buried next to his pyramid. In the prophecy of Neferti it is claimed that the mother of Amenemhet I came from the south, which probably means Nefertiti, although she is not mentioned by name. As the ancestor of the 12th dynasty, a certain "Father of God" Sesostris appears in later sources , who was therefore probably the husband of Nefertiti and father of Amenemhet I.

A crater on the planet Venus was named after Nofret, the mother of Amenemhet I.
