Nomenclatura is an electro group from Berlin that was founded in 1990 by Alexander Blaß, Frank Hegermann, Holger Porsch, Michael Maaß and Wolfram Kriesing. After her first beginnings in the Synthpop genre, the style later changed to Electronic Body Music (EBM).

history

1989–1990: Prehistory

Frank Hegermann and Wolfram Kriesing already knew each other from school, brought in their classmate Alexander Blaß, who brought the first synthesizer, and the first steps with their own compositions took place. In 1990 Holger Porsch joined the group of friends as keyboardist and singer and Michael Maaß as singer. The name Nomenclatura is a term that encompasses everything and is not limited to anything that is reflected in the band's music.

1991-2001

After attempts in the field of synth pop and songs like Sit and Enjoy came the first concerts. With the song Hardworking Nomenclatura ushered in a new direction and tended more and more towards EBM. In 1993 the first demo tape with 10 songs was published, including the titles New Age and Higher Lowness , both of which were later to be found on the album Muddle . In 1994 Frank Hegermann left for lack of time. In the same year Nomenclatura recorded the first 5 tracks in a professional environment, financed the blank in an edition of 500 copies completely themselves and the songs were released as an EP in 1995 under the name Styxx . With the CD in their luggage, the band went on tour and was lucky that the track Torture & Pain turned out to be a club hit. This made the then label boss Christian Weber of Maschinenwelt Records aware of Nomenclatura, who signed the band in 1996. In the same year Styxx was re-released on Maschinenwelt Records.

This was followed in 1997 by the album Muddle , in 1998 Temporarily with the club hit Bodyhunter as well as several concerts such as in the Hardrock Cafe or the Arena in Berlin. Nomenclatura was able to develop a solid group of fans in the electro scene. The last recordings from 1999 have remained unpublished to this day. Dear Mother was the only song to be released in the US in 2000 as a single track and went to number 4 on the Billboard Talent Net Charts. After a few concerts until 2001, the electro formation disbanded for the time being.

2012: resurrection

In the period from 2007 to 2010 Michael Maaß wrote new songs together with Johann Peter Hartmann, which initially ran under the name The Exam. In 2011 Michael Maaß met the producer Chris Müller, who created new motivation. The attempt to get the whole band back together failed. In November 2011 the first recordings for the album Different began , which will be released in February 2013. In spring 2012 there was a first sign of life with the single Stitch me. With a new sound and the distinctive voice of Michael Maaß, Nomenclatura is back in 2012.
