Norbert Ebel

Norbert Ebel (* 1958 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German author , dramaturge , theater actor and director .

Life and education

Ebel studied Theater Studies, Romance Studies and Comparative Literature at the Free University of Berlin . During his studies he worked as a freelance lecturer at S. Fischer Theaterverlag and gained his first practical experience in theater with the student theater group Kneipentheater and as an assistant director at the Vagantenbühne in Berlin. He has lived in Düsseldorf since 1999.

Artistic work

Ebel has been working as a freelance writer, dramaturge, director and actor in Düsseldorf since 1999. He mainly writes theater texts, but also prose and occasional poetry. In coproduction with schools in Düsseldorf, he oversees his own theater projects for children, young people and adults. His plays are performed in German-speaking countries, his most successful play Ox & Esel meanwhile worldwide.

There are regular co-productions with theaters. Ebel has received numerous awards and prizes for his dramas, including a. he is two-time winner of the Dutch-German Youth Theater Prize Kaas & Kappes .

Engagements

In 1986 Ebel was assistant director at the Schleswig-Holstein State Theater in Schleswig, in 1988 dramaturge, director and actor at the State Theater in Detmold. In 1997 he was dramaturge at the Hessian State Theater in Marburg. He is in charge of the European Festival for Chamber Opera and Music Theater “6 Days of Opera” in Düsseldorf.

Ox & Donkey

Ox & Esel is the most popular children's play in German-speaking countries. It has been translated into many languages ​​and is now also used. a. played in Brazil. 114 different productions are on the repertoire at home and abroad. Since 2018 Norbert Ebel has played the role of the donkey himself. Jens Spörckmann from the theater in the Schlachthof in Neuss took over the direction, his play partner Ox is the actor Thomas Hoeveler from the small world theater Velbert.

School theater projects

Since 2007, Norbert Ebel has been doing theater with children and young people as part of the NRW state program KULTUR & SCHULE. He develops plays together with the children and young people and uses this as a basis to write tailor-made plays for the respective group.
