Norbert Hermanns (born December 19, 1959 in Aachen ) is a German entrepreneur in the real estate industry .

Life

Hermanns was born as the eldest son of the forwarding company Heinz Hermanns and his wife Marianne and grew up in Aachen. He attended the Einhard High School and was particularly interested in literature and philosophy during his school days . During his studies, however, he turned to economics and a little later to the real estate industry .

Since 1984 he has been married to Ruth Kirschner-Hermanns, a specialist in urology and andrology. As a university professor, she heads the Neurourological Clinic at the University Hospital Bonn . The couple has four grown children. From 1995 to 1997 the Hermanns family lived in the USA . The examination of American culture and business culture had a great impact on Norbert Hermanns.

Career

After graduating from high school, Hermanns studied economics at RWTH Aachen University from 1979 to 1985 .

To finance his studies, Hermanns founded a company to organize market events in 1979 together with a friend from school. Just two years after they were founded, the two operated over 300 stores per year in Germany. In 1985 the two entrepreneurs parted ways. From 1986 to 2019 Hermanns operated the company under the name “MELAN macht Markt” and then sold it to the long-time managing director Volker Weitz.

Since 1983, Hermanns built up a second business area in parallel and founded various regional trade fairs, including the “Aachener Computertage” and the “Aachener Baumesse”. He started the “Regio-Messe” in 1986, and one year later it became the annual international “EUREGIO Economic Show”. After more than 30 years, Hermanns sold this event to Medienhaus Aachen in 2017 in order to focus on the real estate business from now on.

Since 1987 Hermanns has turned to real estate project development. His first construction sites were in the industrial area at Aachener Kreuz , where between 1989 and 1994 he and a small team built or converted around 100,000 square meters of commercial space. Since 1991 Hermanns has been the managing partner of "AMW projekte GmbH" (today "STADTMARKEN GmbH"), which he founded and runs as a family business.

In 2006, Hermanns founded Landmarken AG as a professional project developer company, of which he has been a director and main shareholder ever since. For his commitment, Norbert Hermanns received the ULI Leadership Award for the DACH region in 2019. His project "Quartier Guter Freund" has been recognized as the "largest publicly funded and privately realized residential district in all of North Rhine-Westphalia" with the Real Estate Manager Award 2020 in the category "Project development new building 2020".

  • From the 1980s until 2019, Hermanns was 2nd chairman of the “Association of German Market Designers VDM in North Rhine-Westphalia e. V. "
  • From 2000 to 2004 he was President of the "Marketing Club Aachen"
  • From 2002 to 2007 Hermanns was chairman of the foundation "A House for Music in Aachen"
  • In 2014/2015 he was President of the Rotary Club Aachen
