Importance of the real estate industry

The importance of the housing and real estate industry can be illustrated by looking at fixed assets . The total gross fixed assets of real estate amounted to around 17.3 trillion at the end of 2016. Euro. After deducting depreciation, the total German net fixed assets in buildings amounts to almost 8 trillion euros, of which around 4.8 trillion euros are tied up in residential buildings and 3.2 trillion euros in non-residential buildings. Around 3.0 million employees subject to social security contributions worked in companies in the real estate industry (broad definition) in 2016, which corresponds to around 9.5% of all dependent employees.

The housing and real estate industry makes a significant contribution to the overall economic performance. Measured against the macroeconomic gross value added , the “real estate and housing sector” achieved a share of 10% in 2012. That is around 264 billion euros.

communication

In the meantime, various specialist forums have emerged as central communication locations for the industry. Here, however, a distinction must be made between forums whose target group are mainly non-commercial market participants, i.e. H. private tenants and landlords, buyers and sellers as well as tenants and prospective buyers and those forums that are aimed exclusively at purely commercial market participants.

The former are usually based on publicly held web forums and, in terms of content, revolve almost exclusively around the topics of renting and buying residential property. Due to the mostly lacking registration obligation or the admissibility of being able to appear with nicknames, the technical-content quality of these forums is to be assessed as rather low.

The industry forums , which are aimed exclusively at commercial industry participants, have shown over the years that only a handful of platforms were able to meet the needs of specialist participants, so that the market for industry forums in the real estate sector is very manageable.

In addition to the many different specialist forums that still exist today, various publishers have specialized in the real estate industry and publish special-interest titles and journals for the industry. The various activities in the industry require a high flow of information and basic industry knowledge, which is why every real estate professional obtains information through such publications (and online portals ).
