Helmut Jenkis

Helmut Walter Jenkis (born November 20, 1927 in Petrellen, Heydekrug district , Memelland , Lithuania ; † January 13, 2016 ) was a German economist.

Life

Helmut Jenkis, son of Marin Jenkis, studied economics and social sciences in Hamburg, Bruges, Luxembourg, Bonn and Freiburg from 1948 after an apprenticeship at the city administration in Barmstedt in Holstein . In Freiburg im Breisgau he was with the work The neutralization of balance of payments surpluses: Eine theoret.empir. Study on German currency policy from 1950-1960 for Dr. rer.pol. PhD. He was a graduate of the first year of the Academy for Community Economy , founded in 1948 , which later became the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics .

He was initially an audit assistant at the Association of North German Housing Companies, later an association director and board member of the Association of the Housing Industry in Lower Saxony and Bremen, based in Hanover. He was also a long-standing member of the association committee of the general association of non-profit housing companies. In addition, between 1973 and 1983 he worked as a UN official and UN housing advisor in 19 European and non-European countries such as Cyprus, Islan, Iran and Oman.

Since his appointment on March 29, 1975, he has been an honorary professor of economics specializing in housing management in the spatial planning department at the University of Dortmund . He was visiting professor in Münster, Leipzig and Brisbane (Australia). On behalf of the Goethe-Institut he taught in Australia, Turkey and Northern Ireland.

Jenkis has published more than 17 books, 230 articles, 12 reviews. He was the editor of four compilations (as of 1997). He was particularly preoccupied with issues of the GDR planned economy and its decline in recent years.

He was married to Sonnhilt born in 1960. Preussger (Preussger).
