Wilhelm (Wilems) Gaigalat , Lithuanian: Vilius Gaigalaitis , (born September 27, 1870 in Heydebruch , Ragnit district ; † November 30, 1945 in Bretten ) was a Prussian-Lithuanian pastor and member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Life

He was the son of the landowner Miks Gaigalat. After attending school in Memel and Tilsit , he studied theology and philosophy at the Universities of Königsberg and Berlin .

Gaigalat was, among other things, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Consistory and Professor at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Kaunas . He represented Memel-Heydekrug from 1903 to 1918 as a Prussian MP. On May 2, 1918, Gaigalat and the Christian Social Representative Wilhelm Wallbaum (1876–1933) voted in the Prussian House of Representatives as the only members of the conservative parliamentary group - both interns - for the same right to vote instead of multiple votes .

In 1941 Gaigalat had to leave Lithuania with his wife. They moved to the German Reich, where they were not granted German citizenship despite several petitions to Adolf Hitler .
