Norbert Oberhaus

Norbert Oberhaus (born April 19, 1961 in Cologne ) is the founder and managing director of Cologne on pop GmbH and thus the organizer of the “ c / o pop ” and “c / o pop Convention”, a festival with a specialist congress and networking events in Cologne. Oberhaus had already worked there as a cultural manager and concert organizer since the early 1990s. Norbert Oberhaus is married, has a daughter and lives in Cologne.

Live and act

After training as an industrial clerk, Norbert Oberhaus studied business administration in Cologne and initially worked as a marketing specialist in the media and culture industry. At that time, he primarily organized the press work for the concert hall in Cologne's Stadtgarten, where he was also an active part of the party program a short time later.

Out of this work, Norbert Oberhaus founded the agency "Oberhaus Kulturmanagement" in 1992. On behalf of municipalities and companies, and also on its own, the company designs and realizes cultural events, concerts and other events. The events that Oberhaus implemented included the annual open-air festival “Cologne Summer Stage”, the club series “Global Nights” in cooperation with WDR Funkhaus Europa or the “Long Night of Cologne Museums” in cooperation with the Cologne magazine " StadtRevue ".

In 2004 Oberhaus initiated the “ Cologne on Pop ” festival together with the Cologne journalist and club operator Ralph Christoph , of which he has been managing director ever since. Over the years, the c / o pop with the connected conference "c / o pop Convention" under Oberhaus has "developed into one of the most important industry meetings at the interface between electronic music and electronic media in Europe" (FAZ). In 2018 the 15th anniversary edition of c / o pop had 30,000 visitors and was therefore sold out on all days of the event. In the same year, the c / o pop Convention counted 1,100 accredited experts.

Awards, memberships and other activities

In 2006 Oberhaus was a co-initiator of the “Musik NRW” interest group, in which publishers, concert organizers, music clubs, event and promotion agencies as well as analog and digital music media have come together.

In 2008 he was voted "Networker of the Year", an award given by the Institute for Innovation Transfer at Bielefeld University .

In 2009 Oberhaus founded the “Cologne Music Week” with Cologne on pop GmbH as a “winter offshoot” of “c / o pop”. Every year in January, the festival brings together free concerts by local acts in various locations parallel to the design exhibition “Passagen”.

In 2009 he was one of the co-founders of the Kölner Klubkomm, the association of Cologne clubs and organizers. Until 2014 he was the first chairman of the board, until 2018 he was the second chairman and since then he has been a member of the board.

In 2011 Norbert Oberhaus was one of the creators and co-founders of the popNRW youth development program.

In 2018, Oberhaus launched the “Cologne Music Conference” discussion event aimed at local actors and politicians, parallel to the 10th edition of “Cologne Music Week”.

Since 2018 he has been a board member of BV Pop (Bundesverband Popularmusik eV), the forum for promoting pop culture and popular music in Germany.

In this capacity, Norbert Oberhaus conceived the event Pop Summit 2020 in 2019, a federal conference on the promotion of pop, which took place on January 21 and 22, 2020 at his work in Cologne on the premises of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce.
