Norberto Santana (painter)
Norberto Santana (* 1943 in Santo Domingo ) is a Dominican painter.
Santana studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes and was one of Jaime Colson's last students . He belonged to the artist group El Puño and was a professor at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo . In Santo Domingo 1966-67 he had the first of sixteen solo exhibitions, and he participated in more than 20 group exhibitions.
In 1970 he represented the Dominican Republic at the World's Fair for Young Artists in the USA. In 1972 he won third prize at the Concurso Annual E. León Jimenes , in 1974 the Premio Alpsaca and in 1979 the special prize for painting at the 14th Bienal Nacional de Arte Plásticas . He also created murals for the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and the auditorium of the Banco Central . The Museo de las Casas Reales dedicated the exhibition Obras Recientes to him in 2006 .
