Nord 2200 was a French interceptor .

history

Shortly after the end of the Second World War , the French state-owned aircraft manufacturer Société nationale de constructions aéronautiques du Nord (SNCAN) started production again. At the same time, numerous new designs were developed in the various factories, among them the prototype of a single-seat jet fighter for the carrier mission, the development of which was initiated by the French Navy.

The machine known as the Nord 2200 - a single-jet low-wing aircraft with a nose wheel landing gear and central air intake - was intended for intercepting operations. The swept wings with high-speed laminar profile also had Fowler flaps.

The prototype took off on its maiden flight on December 19, 1949, but significant design changes were necessary during the ongoing flight tests, including to the servo systems and the fin. The air inlet was also redesigned and received radar devices in a lip above it. The flight tests could not be completed until March 1952, whereby the stability problems with the swept wing, which had not yet been fully explored, proved to be insoluble. Since other carrier fighters were available in the meantime, the development was discontinued; swept wing research continued with the north in 1601 .
