Nord Aviation
Nord Aviation was a French state-owned aircraft manufacturer based in Bourges . It was created on October 1, 1954 by merging the state-owned companies Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Nord (SNCAN) and Société française d'étude et de construction de matériels aéronautiques spéciaux (SFECMAS), a manufacturer of wire-controlled anti - tank missiles such as the SS.10 . For its part, SFECMAS emerged in 1952 from the Arsenal de l'Aéronautique founded in 1947 . After the merger, the company initially kept the name SCAN; The name Nord Aviation was adopted in 1958. The company headquarters and most important production location was Bourges.
In 1970 the company was merged with Sud Aviation and the manufacturer of rocket propulsion systems Société pour 1'étude et la réalisation d'engins balistiques (SEREB) to form the aerospace group Aérospatiale .
